Who do you work with?
Roots to Rise works with women and girls 16 and older who live in Colorado. Many arrive exhausted, carrying something that happened years ago, or working out what they were taught about their own worth.
We see clients in every part of the state by video, with particular attention to rural communities where the nearest therapist is a long drive away.
Do you see clients in person?
No. Roots to Rise is a telehealth practice and every session is held by secure video. There is no public office and no in-person option.
That is by design rather than by circumstance. Meeting from your own home removes the drive, the waiting room, the childcare scramble, and the chance of running into a neighbor in the parking lot.
Does therapy really work over video?
It is a fair question to ask before you commit. Rather than make claims about outcomes, we would rather tell you what the work looks like. We start slowly, we pay close attention to your voice and your breathing, and we check in about how the format is landing.
Some women find a screen makes hard things easier to say. Others need a few sessions before it stops feeling strange. Both are normal.
What happens in the free introductory consultation?
The consultation is a short, low pressure conversation held by video or phone. We talk about what you are looking for and whether this practice is the right place for it.
There is no intake paperwork, no cost, and no expectation that you schedule afterward. If we are not the right fit, we will point you toward someone who is.
What is a first session like?
Mostly listening. We ask what brought you here, what you are hoping for, and enough about your history and your current life to understand the ground you are standing on.
You are not expected to tell us everything on the first day. We will not push you toward the hardest material before we know it can be held safely.
Do you accept insurance?
We bill in network through a third party insurance platform, which means many clients are able to use their benefits for sessions with us.
You can verify your coverage before your first session rather than finding out afterward. We are glad to walk through how that works during the free consultation.
Is a sliding scale available?
Yes. Reduced fee appointments are available for clients who pay privately, and we would rather have that conversation openly than lose someone to an assumption about cost.
Bring it up during the consultation. Money is a practical obstacle rather than an embarrassing one, and it is far easier to sort out before you start than partway through.
What do I need on my end for a video session?
A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, an internet connection, and a space where you can speak without being overheard. That is the whole list.
You do not need special software, a fast connection, or any particular skill with technology. Headphones help with privacy on a busy day but are not required.
How does confidentiality work with telehealth?
Sessions run on a secure, encrypted video platform, and the same confidentiality rules that apply in an office apply to a session held at your own kitchen table.
We walk you through what confidentiality covers, and the small number of legal exceptions to it, before your first session rather than after.
What if I do not want to be on camera that day?
Then turn it off. You can sit on the floor, keep the lights low, or hold the dog, and the session still counts.
You control the room and how much of it we see. For women whose sense of safety was taken somewhere else, that control is often the reason this format works at all.
What therapy approaches do you use?
We draw on EMDR, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems and parts work, somatic and mindfulness based practices, and shame resilience.
Which of those we reach for depends on you rather than on a set protocol. All of it is trauma informed, person centered, and paced so the ground is steady before we ask anything of it.
What is the Roots to Rise framework?
The work moves through five phases mapped onto the life of a tree. The Roots build safety, the Trunk examines inherited belief, the Branches process stored experience, the Canopy reclaims what was trained out of you, and the Fruit carries the work into daily life.
It is not a straight line. A client may tend roots and reach toward canopy in the same season.
Are you neurodivergent affirming?
Yes. We work with ADHD, autistic, and highly sensitive clients, including women who suspect they are neurodivergent but have never been assessed.
We treat a differently calibrated nervous system as information about how you work rather than a defect to correct. We do not provide diagnostic testing, though we can point you toward providers who do.
Do I have to leave my faith to do deconstruction work?
No. Deconstruction here means taking a belief apart to see where it came from, then deciding for yourself whether to keep it. It is not the same as leaving faith and it has no required destination.
We hold no position on where you land. Some clients rebuild a faith that fits them and some do not, and both are real results of honest work.
Do you work with teenagers?
We work with girls 16 and older. Consent and confidentiality for a client under 18 are governed by Colorado law, and we go over exactly what applies before we begin.
Generally we keep parents informed about how the work is going and about anything affecting safety, while protecting the privacy she needs in order to use the sessions honestly.
Do I have to be in crisis to start therapy?
No. You do not have to be in crisis to belong here, and waiting until things become unbearable is not a requirement for starting.
That said, this practice is not a crisis service. If you need immediate help, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or contact Colorado Crisis Services at (844) 493-8255.
What if you are not the right fit for me?
We will tell you plainly. This practice is not built for anyone in acute crisis who needs a higher level of care, and it is not a match for someone wanting short term symptom management with no interest in slower work.
Licensure also limits us to clients located in Colorado. When we are not the right place, we help you find one that is.
You do not have to be in crisis to belong here.
