LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

Online Therapy for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Two-Spirit, Nonbinary, Intersex, Asexual, Gender-Expansive, and Questioning Adults

This is a space where all identities are welcome and no one has to explain themselves. Who you love, how you understand your gender, and the words you use to describe yourself are honored here, just as they are.

In nature, diversity isn't the exception. It's how life thrives. The most resilient ecosystems are the ones with the greatest variety. You were never meant to shrink, soften, or edit yourself to belong. You are welcome here, whole and exactly as you are.

Who This Is For

I work with LGBTQ+ adults, 18 and older, as well as couples and families. You don't need to be struggling with your identity to come here. Many people simply want a therapist who understands and affirms LGBTQ+ lives. Here, you won't have to explain or defend who you are. You can bring your whole self and focus on what matters most to you, whether that's anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, or a season of change. Your identity is part of your story and part of your strength, never the problem to solve.

Whether you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, nonbinary, intersex, asexual, aromantic, gender-expansive, questioning, or still finding your words, you are welcome here. For Two-Spirit clients, I hold deep respect for the Indigenous cultures and traditions from which this identity comes.

  • Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender-Expansive Adults
You are the expert on your own gender. Wherever you are on your path, exploring, transitioning, or simply living your life, your name, your pronouns, and your pace will be honored here.

  • Questioning and Exploring
Maybe you are still finding the language that best captures who you are. That's okay. There's no deadline and no right answer to reach. Some truths take time to surface, and you deserve a place to explore them with curiosity and openness.

  • Coming Out at Any Age
Coming out isn't a single moment. It's a story you get to tell in your own time, to the people you choose. Whether you're taking your first step or have been out for decades, each chapter is yours to write.

  • Healing From Family or Faith Wounds
If those who were meant to love and guide you met your identity with rejection, that pain is real, and it was never your fault. Here, you can grieve what was lost, honor what remains, and explore family, faith, and belonging on your own terms.

  • LGBTQ+ Couples and Families
I welcome LGBTQ+ couples, as well as families who want to better understand and support an LGBTQ+ loved one. Children and teens are seen only as part of family therapy, not for individual sessions.

What You May Be Carrying

Who you are has never been the problem. Much of what LGBTQ+ people carry comes from a world built around narrow ideas of who people should be and who they should love. Stigma, exclusion, and unjust laws and policies have shaped that world. So have stories written by others. Naming these forces out loud can help you see them clearly, question where they came from, and begin to set down what was never yours to hold. Some of these may feel familiar:

  • Living on Alert
Pausing before you mention a partner. Wondering if it's safe to correct a pronoun or reach for someone's hand. Over time, this watchfulness can settle deep into the body. It is a wise and loving way your nervous system has learned to keep you safe. Researchers call this minority stress, the toll that living with stigma and discrimination takes on body and mind. It reflects an unjust world, not anything lacking within you.

  • Stories You Were Handed
Long before you had words of your own, family, faith, school, and culture may have told stories about who you should be and who you should love. Those stories may have taken root early, before you had the chance to decide what you wanted to grow. Together, we can look at where they came from, whose interests they served, and which ones no longer fit. Then we can make room for the story that's truly yours.

  • Questioning Norms
Many of us grew up surrounded by unspoken rules: that everyone is straight (heteronormativity), that everyone is the gender they were assigned at birth (cisnormativity), and that love and family should look one certain way. These rules can feel like simple truths, but they were shaped by culture, history, and power. Deconstruction is a way of looking at these beliefs with curiosity, understanding where they came from, and choosing for yourself what feels true. It may stir up uncertainty at first. Over time, it often opens space for freedom, self-trust, and a deeper sense of home within yourself.

  • Moving Between Worlds
You may have learned to read every room before deciding how much of yourself to share. You might be open with friends, careful at work, and quieter still with family. This is a skill many LGBTQ+ people learn early, often out of necessity. It shows how wisely you've learned to protect yourself. In our time together, you can put that vigilance aside and show up as all of who you are.

  • Spaces That Weren't Made With You in Mind
Doctor's offices, paperwork, workplaces, and forms that leave you out can make ordinary days feel heavier. These barriers aren't accidents. They reflect choices about who the world was built for. They say nothing about your worth. For trans and nonbinary people especially, moving through them each day takes real courage. That courage deserves to be seen.

  • Longing for Community
If you live in a small town or rural area, it can be hard to find people who truly see and understand you. And still, LGBTQ+ people have always found their way to one another, building chosen families, friendships, and communities that feel like home. Telehealth can bring affirming care closer, wherever you live in Colorado.

  • All of Who You Are
Your story is also shaped by your race, culture, faith, class, body, mind, and the many communities you belong to. When more than one part of you has been pushed to the margins, the weight can multiply. This is sometimes called intersectionality. Each part of you also brings its own beauty and wisdom. Here, every part of you is welcome.

  • The Weight of These Times
Laws, policies, and public debates about LGBTQ+ lives can make it hard to feel steady or safe. Whatever you're feeling, whether fear, grief, anger, or exhaustion, makes sense. Through every season of history, LGBTQ+ communities have resisted injustice with courage, compassion, and creativity, and have changed the world in the process. That same strength lives in you.

When anxiety, sadness, old wounds, or exhaustion show up, they often reflect what an unjust world has asked you to carry, not who you are. Together, we can tend to what's heavy, honor all you've survived, and make room for a fuller, freer you to rise.

The Strengths You Carry

So much of what's written about LGBTQ+ lives focuses on hardship. But your story is also one of strength. You may recognize some of these in yourself:

  • Courage
Every time you've chosen to live more honestly, whether by coming out, correcting a name, or simply being yourself in a room that didn't expect it, you've shown a kind of bravery many people never have to practice.

  • Self-Knowing
LGBTQ+ people often spend more time than most reflecting on who they are and what they want. That inner work brings a depth of self-understanding that serves you for a lifetime.

  • Chosen Family and Connection
Many LGBTQ+ people build families of their own choosing, rooted in love, loyalty, and mutual support. These bonds are a powerful source of belonging.

  • Resilience
Like wildflowers that push up through cracks in the pavement, LGBTQ+ people have always found ways to grow where the world made little room. That resilience lives in you, too.

  • Empathy and a Sense of Justice
Knowing what it feels like to be left out often deepens compassion for others. Many LGBTQ+ people become fierce advocates for fairness, inclusion, and change.

  • Creativity and Authenticity
Imagining a life beyond the scripts you were handed takes creativity. Choosing to live by your own truth is its own kind of art.

In our work, these strengths lead the way. They are the roots we'll build on as you continue to grow into all of who you are.

A Few Things to Know

  • Your Identity Is Yours
Your sexual orientation and gender identity are welcomed here as part of who you are. My role is to honor who you are, never to define it for you. You are always free to explore, wonder, and make sense of your identity in your own way and at your own pace. Every approach I use is grounded in affirmation.

  • Your Name and Pronouns
I'll use the name and pronouns you share with me, in every session and in every conversation. If insurance or legal paperwork requires a different name, we can talk openly about how to handle that in a way that respects you.

  • Letters of Support for Gender-Affirming Care
If you're seeking gender-affirming medical care, I can talk with you about writing a letter of support when it fits your goals and the requirements of your provider.

  • My Commitment to Affirming Care
Affirming care is something I practice with intention and keep learning about. I seek out ongoing training in LGBTQ+ affirming therapy and stay informed about the experiences, needs, and strengths of the communities I serve.

  • Couples and Families
Couples and family sessions are welcoming of all relationship and family structures. Children and teens are seen only as part of family therapy.

How I Approach It

  • Starting From Affirmation
Your identity is a given here, never something you have to prove or explain. From the first session, you'll be met with respect and understanding, so we can focus on what matters most to you.

  • Looking at the Bigger Picture
We'll explore not only what's happening inside you, but also the families, communities, and systems around you. Understanding how the world has shaped your story can bring relief, clarity, and a sense of being less alone.

  • Reclaiming Your Story
Together, we'll notice the stories you were handed, set aside the ones that never fit, and grow the ones that reflect who you truly are.

Tools We May Use

  • Narrative Therapy
To separate who you are from the stories others wrote for you, and reclaim the one that's truly yours.

  • Parts Work (Internal Family Systems)
To get to know the parts of you that learned to hide or protect, and to meet each one with warmth, patience, and understanding.

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy
To soften the inner critic that may have grown from years of stigma, and nurture a kinder voice within.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
To build a life around your values, rooted in authenticity.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy
To explore and understand the feelings beneath the surface, including grief, anger, and joy.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
To notice and shift thought patterns shaped by stigma, using an affirming approach.

  • Somatic and mindfulness practices
To help your body feel safe, grounded, and at home.

  • Shame resilience
To recognize shame that was handed to you, and slowly loosen its hold.

For Couples and Families

  • Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Couple Therapy
To help partners strengthen connection, communication, and trust.

  • Attachment-Based Family Therapy and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy
To help families repair, reconnect, and better support an LGBTQ+ loved one.

Meeting by secure video lets you join from a space where you already feel safe and free to be yourself, anywhere in Colorado.

What Thriving Can Look Like

Thriving doesn't mean the world suddenly becomes fair, or that hard days disappear. It means living from a place of wholeness, even when the world around you hasn't caught up.

Over time, you may notice yourself moving through life with more ease. The stories that once held you back begin to lose their power, and new ones take root. You speak up for yourself with more confidence. You surround yourself with people who see you clearly. You find joy in being exactly who you are.

And you're never alone in it. You're part of a community, held by the people who love you, and connected to the generations of LGBTQ+ people whose courage helped make space for you to grow.
