Before anyone can look at hard memories or old patterns, their nervous system needs enough felt safety to tolerate it. Without that ground, the deeper work tends to overwhelm more than it helps.
For many people this phase takes longer than they expect. That is not a delay or a sign that something is wrong. Building the ground is the work.
A Vocabulary of Safety
Your nervous system's reactions are not a malfunction. They are information about what you have lived through and what your body learned to watch for.
So we start with curiosity instead of correction. Together we build language for what your body does, in words that fit you, not in terms borrowed from someone else's idea of normal. That includes questioning the cultural messages that taught you to distrust your body in the first place.
What This Can Look Like in Session
- Noticing
Slowing down enough to track what is happening in your body, without needing to change it right away. - Grounding and Breath
Simple practices you can use in session and on your own between appointments. - Movement
Small movements that help a nervous system settle, including options for people who do better with eyes open or while moving. - Your Pace
You decide how far to go in any given session. Pausing is always an option.
Because sessions happen by video, you practice all of this in your own space, which is the same place you will be using it.
